By Arthur Manasyan, Senior QA Engineer at Macadamian

In my recent project, I was tasked to automate the API Integration between backends of a medical device and its desktop portal. We were a team of two automation engineers, using ReadyAPI v2.7 as the automation tool and Git/Github for version control.

We were using a common process to version control the ReadyAPI project — using a composite project, each of us would create a feature branch from the master branch, work on a separate test case within the same test suite, and finally merge both branches. Obviously the first branch would…

While chatting with one of my colleagues about a project she is currently on, she was telling me about an Alexa skill that she is testing and how it supports hundreds of dialogs between the Alexa skill and the user. This got me wondering if there wasn’t a tool that could help automate Alexa skill dialog testing.

After a few searches on the web, I was unable to find anything that could appropriately test skills however, I did find a few technologies that I could use to create a tool myself. Specifically Bespoken and Mocha.

The goal of the tool…

There are two iOS developer programs, the Apple Developer Program and the Apple Enterprise Developer Program. The Apple Developer program allows you to build and distribute public apps for the iPhone, Apple Watch, and other Apple platforms through the App Store. The Apple Enterprise Developer Program is for distributing apps within an organization.

We will be focusing on the Apple Developer Program here.

Working on projects with multiple developers poses some challenges when it comes to streamlining the team’s workflow. …

Who am I? What do I do?

I have always had a personal philosophy that to be fulfilled in life, one needs to work at a job that is both engaging and meaningful. As a result, I have always sought out career opportunities that offer me the opportunity to have a positive impact on the world and society and was thrilled at the opportunity of joining Macadamian last year.

My relationship with the company dates back to 2003 when I was looking for a software development partner to build our cloud based telehealth solution and chose Macadamian. …

I’ve been at Macadamian for over 10 years and still consider myself lucky to be working here. When I started with Macadamian, I was part of the User Experience team working as a researcher on a wide variety of projects across many different verticals. My time at Macadamian has meant that I’ve been onsite doing research on primary inspection lines at the border, observing nurses and other allied health professionals as they go about their day helping patients, and in Network Operation centers learning how support kicks in when things go wrong — just to name a few. This is…

Amazon’s Alexa Voice Service and voice assistants in general have been a subject of interest for many of our clients looking to explore how they could extend their brand and the usefulness of their products or solutions with voice interaction. While exploring this possibility with one such client, they proposed a concept that would use Alexa to help the elderly and people with chronic illnesses live more independent lives. Out of this idea sprung LifePod, an Alexa voice-enabled device that acts as a virtual caregiver and digital assistant.

LifePod automatically generates reminders, daily routines, checks in on users and provides…

Who am I? What do I do?

Often when I’m asked what I do at Macadamian, I get a lot of blank faces when I tell them I do User Experience Research. My role is to use a variety of user research techniques to provide context and insight into the software design process. I work hand in hand with a number of internal and external stakeholders like interaction designers, product owners, and end users to understand their experiences, needs, requirements, and expectations.

When I did my co-op term at Macadamian, I couldn’t believe how much I was able to learn and improve in just 4 months. Unsurprisingly, after finishing school, I found myself back at Macadamian, and have been a developer here for the last 3 years.

Macadamian is a great place to learn and advance your skills. I’m always impressed with the talent of my coworkers. As a contracting company, we do a lot of short projects, so devs get to work with a wide range of technologies. We all love that feeling of starting new, the opportunity/potential to do it…

If you get the opportunity to take an internship with Macadamian, take it. Over the past four months I’ve worked as a Graphic Design intern for the UX team doing a lot of different things I never thought I would ever be able to do. On top of that, the diversity of employees and personalities is vast, from developers, to sales, designers, researchers, there are no boring people here.

Honestly I was very frightened before I started. The 19 year old company has many large scale clients that you hear about, and when you see people work for them it’s…

I have a very cool role at Macadamian. I’m a healthcare software architect which might seem dull and tedious but that’s not how it is at all. I’m not the type of architect that does UML diagrams all day and my projects are definitely not lumbering monoliths of ancient code. I spend my days looking for the toughest and most interesting challenges on my projects across all levels and layers. Some days this is prototyping the next critical feature. On others, this is jumping in to help a team member through an insane debugging problem. Every day is different.

I…
